The New Dating Game of our Generation

Dating has changed. There was a time when people once called instead of texted. A time when the guy would actually drive to the girl’s house, pick her up from the front door step, and maybe even hand her flowers. Obviously with today’s technology and our generation, times have changed. Both men and women have gotten lazy when it comes to dating, and the rules have changed with what is considered to be a relationship. Here are a few things that are now apart of our generation’s dating world.

1. “We should chill.”

Chill? Oh is that your way of asking me out? Because I don’t want to “chill” but if you want to ask me out properly to go see a movie or get dinner then that would be fine. Now some guys have asked me to chill, and I understand that because I chill with my friends, or at home when I’m having a lazy day, but if you intend on asking me out or impressing me, then use another set of words.

2. Main chicks vs. Side chicks

Yeah it’s really funny hearing all those “side chicks” jokes, but it’s actually become a norm now for guys to have a girlfriend and another girl on the side. Apparently one girl, who stays by your side and will do anything for you, isn’t enough for guys these days. And some women are okay with just being “the other woman.”

3. Saying “I love you” for the first time, over a text?!

I have actually seen this happen. My friend was dating a guy and he must have been too nervous to say it in person, because he decided to text her instead. Guys, you don’t know how sad and disappointing that is..Just, no.

4. Phone calls, do they even happen?

Sometimes it’s just nice to have a conversation over the phone instead of through text messages. With texting, you can’t always tell how a person is really feeling. I’m not saying you have to call your girl or guy up to talk everyday, but a phone conversation, or a FaceTime call every once in awhile would be cool.

5. Social Media

Everyone says how social media can ruin relationships, and it’s true. I experienced it with one of my past relationships. Whether you want to post your relationship all over Instagram and Facebook is up to you and your partner. But just remember, no one cares to see your MCM or WCW every single week. And don’t get too caught up with the internet that you can’t even focus on reality and life beyond your phone.
